Learning to Listen

For the past 8 years Blessed Sacrament has given married  and engaged couples an opportunity to learn a specific and practical method to improve their communication skills, called "Active Listening".  Listening can strengthen any relationship whether with your loved one, child, family member, friend or colleague at work.  Past participants reported feeling closer to their partner, better able to communicate with each other, their children and others.

The Program

It will help you:

  • Really understand what the other person has said--the meaning, attitudes, and feelings behind the words.

  • Make decisions as a couple

  • Help resolve differences and solve problems together

  • And most importantly, enrich your relationship even further!

The workshop will be led by parishioners Ann and Jim Hoffman, who have been involved in couple ministry for 40 years.  Couples will receive general instruction and will then be paired with a trained facilitator in order to practice the skills taught.

Who Should Attend?

The past sessions drew a range of couples, from engaged couples to those with small children and those who had been married for nearly 50 years.   Again, this year's session is open to all married and engaged couples interested in strengthening their relationship.  This is not for couples who are experiencing serious difficulties in their marriage.

Where Do We Meet?

The workshop will be held on four consecutive Tuesdays during Lent in the Lower Level of the Parish Center of Blessed Sacrament.  Each session will be from 7:30 - 9:30 pm.  Please note that each session builds on earlier sessions, so plan to attend all four sessions.  Have to miss a session, make up is available.
